Food Waste

Do you know how much food is wasted a year in China ? Do you know how many children have died of hunger ? And do you know how many people are still worried about not having any food ?
In China , The food that was wasted on Chinese table was as high as 20 billion Yuan a year , food equivalent to a year of more than 200 million people ration . In contrast , in China , there is still more than 100 million rural poor people who have problems with hunger .

So in order to reduce food waste we can do three things
Image result for food list 1 . Make a food list . You can just buy the things that you need, such as 2kg of fish or 1 kg of meat etc. You can buy some fruit and some vegetables today and tomorrow you will buy 1 kg of fish ,2 kg of meat .....

2 .  Be careful of the date ( especially milk ) . Sometimes when we buy the milk or other things we are not be careful of the date . Day after the food will be not be fresh any more .Image result for food date
Image result for food in fridge 3. Put the foods that you cannot finish in the fridge. If they are not as fresh as before, then you can cook them again for the next dinner . For example . the fish , la pasta ( usually no ) , rice .....

Finally , reducing food waste is simple to do at home . It is also good for environment, people, and animals . If we all do these 3 things ,we can waste less food and have more for people in China and everywhere .

wasting food

How to save food at home

Each year, in France people are wasting 10 million of tons of food, which is 317 kg per second with 2 million tons consumable food. That is why I am going to give you some good and easy ideas to save food at home such as giving food to pets, put the extra food in the fridge,  and do not buy too much food at the store.

If you have got a pet, you can give him the food that you did not eat to avoid wasting food. For example if you have got a carnivorous pet like a dog or a cat they can eat almost anything like pasta, meat or rice. If you have a herbivorous pet like a rabbit you can give him vegetables or fruits, even the parts you would usually throw away.

This second idea which  is more for everybody is when you buy too much food or you did not finish what you were eating, you put the food in the fridge. With this idea you will save a lot of food easily. You can put everything, meat, vegetables, pasta, rice... You can also freeze food that you buy and will not eat immediately.

The last and the easiest idea is not to buy too much food. Because this idea is easy, everybody can not by too much. With this idea you will save food and money. You can write a "to do list" where you write what you need to buy. With this idea you will not buy extra food, so will not throw it away.

If you follow correctly this three easy steps you will wasting less food than before and save more money. It is very important to follow at least one of these steps and it is already a good beginning for saving nature and creating less pollution .

Food waste

STOP WASTING OUR RESOURCES

Image result for food waste
Did you know that about 80 percent of the food is wasted?  We need to stop this from today.  We cannot continue waiting or the results will be devastating. If we do not stop wasting this large amount of food one day we will end up with no resources. Don' t you believe it? If you want to stop wasting food and start protecting our planet you just need to follow these three easy but efficient techniques.

The first way to reduce to reduce food waste is to eat less meat. Every person eats about 80 kg of meat per year. Meat is one of the most expensive resources that we have. By reducing meat consumption we are also reducing all the resources that we need to raise a cow. So if instead of eating this large amount of meat to get our daily amount of proteins we can try to reduce the meat and start eating other foods such as peanuts or insects, which contain a large amount of proteins.

Next, to reduce food waste we should all make a shopping list every time we go to buy something. This way we will reduce food waste because you only buy the things that you want to eat. The food won' t spoil because you know what you already have, so you won' t buy extra. Some people might not have enough time to make an inventory so they could ask their parents to use it.

Finally eating the food that we buy before it spoils is one of the most important things to reduce food waste. An average American throws away about one fourth of the food that he is supposed to consume. The most efficient way to reduce this is to preserve it properly, for example if you buy a large amount of fresh food  is better if you put everything in the fridge and when you want to consume  it you just take the portion that you will eat. With the things that are outside you should keep then completely closed so the insects won' t eat them.

With these three ways you will be able to reduce food waste and protect our planet, I know it sounds too exaggerated, but it is true because if we continue wasting this amount of resources instead of using  them one day it will be too late. Start applying these techniques now!

How to Waste Less Food

How to Waste Less Food
Did you know that about one third of all food produced worldwide worth around 1 trillion dollars is lost during food production and consumption? This just shows how much we care about the food we waste.  Most of us might not be doing it on purpose, so here's some tips to waste less food and possibly save some money.

There are many ways we can save money and waste less food at the same time in our normal household. One of the things we started doing is checking our food storages and making a shopping list.  This is really helpful because you can prevent yourself from buying too much food and you can decide what you want to make for dinner, lunch, and breakfast. Knowing how much you and your family eat,  you should know what to buy and exactly how much of it, like what is usually thrown away won’t be bought and have money wasted on it.

Knowing where to store your foods is really important because even if they have expiration dates it doesn’t mean that they can't expire or spoil early because of the bad environment they are stored in. This can be helpful in many ways.  It could help you keep the food for longer before it spoils or until you finish it.  Another way this can be helpful is that if can help you remember where you have stored certain types of food. Tip: please don’t just shove everything into your fridge.  It’s so cramped in there that the different ingredients probably don't feel comfortable #FoodHaveFeelingsToo

Meat is the product that takes the most resources to prepare, transport, and afterwards most of it is wasted.  Each year about 80 kilograms of it is wasted PER PERSON. This just shows you how much we don’t appreciate what we have at our disposal, even though it uses the most resources to be produced but it’s the one that most people eat and take for granted. For this there are many options that can help you save money and waste less meat.  One of them is to purchase and consume less of it and whenever you purchase it try to keep it under a controlled amount, you can get the proteins that your body needs from many other food products such as nuts, peanut butter and most people say that insects are the food of the future, so who knows... maybe in the near future insects will become a delicacy.

If you have read this far through this blog I would like to thank you for checking out my tips and I hope that this blog has been helpful to you and your family. In conclusion I would like to ask you to put all your new ideas in the comment section and if you have any questions feel free to ask me and I will try to reply.

Food Waste

Food waste is becoming a huge problem. One industry consultant estimates that up to one in seven truckloads of perishables delivered to supermarkets is thrown away. Not Only That, the average American consumer wastes 10 times as much food as someone in Southwest Asia. You can help reduce These numbers by doing three easy things.
You can start your waste reduction program by planning a weekly menu That your family will actually eat. For example, if only one member of your family likes meat, I Should not go on your menu plan Because it will probably just be wasted. Once you have made a realistic menu, create a shopping list.

Next, be mindful of old ingredients and you need to use up leftovers. You'll waste less and may even find a new favorite dish. If safe and healthy, use the edible parts of food That You normally do not eat. For example, stale bread can be used to make croutons. Also, at restaurants, order only what you can finish by asking about portion sizes and taking home the leftovers.

Finally, cook or store perishable foods soon after shopping. It will be easier to whip up meals or snacks later in the week, saving time, effort, and menu. When you get home from the store, take the time to place your fresh food in clean storage containers for snacks and easy cooking. For example, bake and freeze chicken breasts and fry or freeze taco meat.

In conclusion, with a little planning and discipline, reducing food waste in your home is achievable. It's as simple as planning, storing, and preparing properly. Follow our tips and you will become a "food-waste-reduction hero".

How to waste less food

Why do too many people waste food ? 57% of the European population lacks food. If you want to waste less food at home, you have to buy less food that you do not eat, you can also conserve food by putting it in a freezer, and finally you can give the extra food that you have to the people who need it.

First and foremost, buying extra food is spending too much time, too much money, and pollutes the world because the packages are made with plastic. The food we do not eat goes to the rubbish heap and to land fills.

Next, if you do not want to buy too much, try making a list or something like this to preserve a lot of things.

For the second, you can conserve food in the freezer. If you have too much bread or too many vegetables you can cut it in little pieces and put it in the freezer. You can also put meat there. You need to put the old stuff on the front.  Like this you make sure you will eat the oldest food in first. You also need to check regularly that the food is again possible to eat.

Finally, a lot of associations exist ! When you waste food or also when you don't want clothes or objects anymore,  you can give to the associations everywhere in the world.

In conclusion, if you follow all these rules you will waste less food, save money and time,  you pollute less and the world will be better. So stop wasting and stop polluting!

SAVING from FOOD FOOD WASTE

When I was five years old the food that I did not eat was thrown to the trash and that happens a lot nowadays, and not only at my house.  All around the world food is wasted.   More than 1 billion euro of food per year.   There are many reasons that explain food waste but in this blog we will talk about the three major causes.

The amount of food that is wasted in the world can be exemplified in many ways, to worrying: developed countries waste between 250 and 300 kilos per person per year.
Zero waste is unattainable, but the scope for improvement is really low. Jose Antonio Cuesta, author of the study, explains that there is no statistical series that allows observing trends, but is convinced That it is not going down. "The only reliable data we have is from the US and UK, where waste has grown in recent years. We can not take These countries as a reference, since they have very specific socioeconomic characteristics That Are not extrapolable to a large part of the world , but they do show That much remains to be done, "he summarizes.

The solutions are multiple, some of a great economic cost in infrastructures, That others require only small investments and some concern That the awareness of consumers and distributors. The Majority of the unnecessary expenditure of food is distributed in the phases of consumption , production  and storage of food .

Across the globe, countries are Implementing formulas to tackle this waste. Between them:

Developing countries
1. Steam refrigerators. Storage systems in developing countries can be affected by many factors: power outages, monsoons, conflicts That delay delivery. To prevent food temperatures from being dependent on electricity, countries like Tanzania or India are using refrigerators That use the steam generated by the food itself When given the sun to maintain its temperature. This Prevents some crops from being spoiled by heat.

2. Rigid boxes. Solutions as simple as using rigid boxes similar to Those used routinely by the fruit trees of developed countries mean the difference between losing Hundreds of kilos of food by blows and crushing or taking advantage of them.

WHAT'S MORE WASTED

When measuring by weight, fruit is Undoubtedly the type of food That is most wasted in the world. It accounts for around 44% of the 1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted annually That is, according to Functional the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). They are Followed by roots and tubers (20%), cereals (19%) and, Further away, milk (8%).

However, as noted in the World Resources Institute's Reducing Food Waste and Loss report, These types of food Vary greatly in calorie intake per kilogram. For example, one kilo of wheat flour contains 12% water and 3,643 kc, while an average apple has 81% water and 1,704 kc. "For that reason, measuring by weight does not consistently reflect the energy wasted That could have been consumed by the population," he notes.

Your alternative is to quantify the calories. In this way, the cereals would top the list, with 53% of the energy lost.

3. Hermetically sealed plastic bags. It is another simple solution That can prevent insect pests from devouring crops harvested. Farmers in Nigeria are beginning to use them for seeds.

4. Metal silos. Usually, crops are moved to large silos. Between transport and storage, the food goes through phases in cui there are usually losses. Kenya is experimenting with smaller metal containers, Which can be used by families and communities to conserve food better and avoid any downsizing in the process.

5. Infrastructures. If the solutions so far were cheap and easy to implement, it requires large investments: improving roads, power lines and transport systems in developing countries helps to make better use of food.

How Can We Reduce Food Waste?
Have you ever thought about how much food we are wasting? In 2014, Americans disposed of more than 38 million tons of food waste and 40 percent of food in the United States goes uneaten. This shows us that we are wasting too much food. When we waste food, we are also wasting other resources such as energy, money, water, and time, etc. So as to reduce food waste, we can do some easy things that everyone can do, such as making a shopping list, buying as much food as we can eat, and checking the fridge often.

First, we can make a shopping list before going shopping based on the meals that we will eat for the following week. Prior to making a shopping list, we must check our fridge and kitchen to avoid buying something that we already have in our kitchen. Thus, we can buy only what we need for our home.

Then, we mustn’t buy more food than we eat and need. If we do not eat all foods that we bought, they can decay. As a result of decaying, we have to throw them away. For this reason, we must plan how much food we need.

Finally, we must check the fridge often. Besides this, we must also control the foods according to their expiration dates.  If the expiration date is about to finish, we will consume them before the others. Actually, we can sort the products in accordance with their expiration dates. In this way, the foods we have cannot exceed the expiration dates. Also, we can eat the foods before they decay.

If we can do these easy things that everyone can do, we can reduce the food waste, save money, and protect the environment.

SAVING FOOD

Did you know that 40% of the food in the United States goes to waste? And that the average American consumer wastes 10 times as much food as someone in Southeast Asia? Up to one out of seven truck loads of perishable food is thrown away before it even gets to the supermarket. And this is not only a loss of food: 10% of the U.S. energy budget goes to bringing food to our tables, as well as the 80% of freshwater consumed in the U.S.  But if we saved food by reducing losses by just 15%, more than 25 million Americans could be fed. There are many ways of saving food. In this blog I will explain how to do it by buying only the necessary food, storing it properly so that it doesn't rot, and "recycling" it.

You've probably happened many times to buy food and then realise that you didn't need that food or that you already had it. Most of the times, the result is that food ends up being wasted. To avoid this it is important to buy only the necessary food. There are many ways of doing this: make a shopping list with the ingredients you will need for the future meals. To know what ingredients  to buy, I suggest keeping a running list of meals and their ingredients. Check the cupboards and the refrigerator before buying to make sure you don't already have what you need. To make this easier, store things neatly and in a tidy way. This will make shopping and cooking easier and will save food.

Food is often wasted and thrown away because it rots even before you can use it. This is often due to a bad storage. As I said before, it is important to store food in an orderly way, but it is even more important to store it in the right place. Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, milk, and other fresh products go rotten quickly and easily if not correctly stored. Some products need to be conserved in the refrigerator for a better preservation. Meat and fish can either be frozen (if they're not to be consumed soon) or kept in the refrigerator. Fruits and vegetables, depending on the type, can be stored inside or outside the refrigerator.

Finally, "recycling" food is also important. Using leftovers for alternative meals, or giving scraps to animals are examples of using food that is about to be thrown away. Fruit that is starting to become overripe can be used to make cakes or milkshakes. Vegetables can make great sauces or stews. Bread that's gone too hard can be reduced to bread crumbs to later be used to fry food.

All these are ways to try and save food. They can be successfully implemented at home and by doing them, you will not only save food, but also water, energy, and money.

       How to not waste food

In today’s world, we have the tendency to mistakenly waste food. We do this by overbuying products that aren’t needed, buying products that expire in a short time that we do not consume in timely manner, and not consuming products already bought because of pure laziness to prepare it. It is important to realize these simple mistake and try to fix them. We can try modifying our lives by making a grocery list before going to the grocery store, using leftovers, and if there are domestic animals living in our homes the scraps could be given to them.

Making a grocery list before shopping is very helpful in trying to not waste food. This is because if we make  a list before going to the grocery store, we will buy what we need instead of over buying products that are still to be consumed in our homes. Another reason that making a list before grocery shopping is important is so we will not forget what we need.

Next it is important to try to make new dishes out of leftovers. This is important because perhaps if enough food left over is enough, a person could easily eat that instead of cooking something else. This way a person saves time, energy, and money. It is also a satisfaction knowing that the food wasn’t wasted.

Giving scraps to a domestic animal is another way food goes unwasted. Any hungry animal would love extra food. If it is healthy for the animal and not wanted by the human, why not give any scraps left over to the animal? For example if a person has a dog any meat scraps could be given to the dog.

If people try and make the effort in making these small changes, then less food would be wasted. If a person makes a simple grocery list before going grocery shopping, prepares leftovers from the night before, and gives unwanted scraps to their beloved pet, there would be less of a food waste problem and fewer people hungry in the world

Why we should eat insects

Eating insects is considered disgusting or even primitive in Western societies but elsewhere, 2 billion people eat insects on a regular basis. According to a report released recently by the United Kingdom, the benefits of eating insects as food is so great that it is high time we convert the other 5 billion people.Image result for eating insects

A good reason for eating insects is that it could be the solution to world hunger. There are forty tons of insects to every human.  That's more than enough for an ongoing '' all you can eat '' insect buffet. For example, for Africa, a continent that has this problem, by eating insects could resolve it and save many lives.
Image result for eating insects
In addition, most of the insects are naturally sustainable. Mealworms for example, survive on waste wheat chaff rather than guzzling grain like our favourite meat sources. All summed up insects will resolve a lot of problems. Then insects are very easy to farm on a large scale without damaging the environment. They even provide us unusual flavours and textures.

Insects will even benefit our body because they are highly nutritious. Caterpillars, for example, provide more protein and more iron than the same quantity of minced beef. In fact many other countries are eating insects. Cambodians eat tarantulas and in Thailand they eat deep fried crickets. There are over 1,000 varieties of insects edible to humans. Surely there's something for everyone.
Image result for eating insects
In the end, I think that we should all start to eat insects, because we could totally change our lives in a positive manner. A good thing is that some restaurants started promoting this idea. In Naples recently, a shop that sells insects opened near to my house. I hope that this idea of eating insects will spread throughout the world so that we could improve our lives.

How to reduce food waste
                                                                                      By Mingzhe
Do you know that the global annual waste of food is about 20 million tons every year? Did anyone ever tell you that  Americans waste about 21% food of all the production? Do you know how many people are still starving? Do you know how to change this situation? You do not need to do something difficult and great, just something easy. For example, you can make a list of  the food you need before buying it,store food properly, or use extra food for leftovers or petfood.
Every day, when we go shopping for food, most people never have a list of everything they need to buy. So sometimes we buy something we don’t need, like something we already have.Or sometimes we forget to buy something important. If you have a list of every food you need to buy, you will never buy too much food. This way,you won’t waste it either.images.jpeg
Next,as everybody knows, different foods need different ways to preserve. But a lot of people don’t know how to save them but just put them in the fridge or put some of them on the table. Some things need to be stored carefully. For example, you need to store rice in somewhere that is cool, dry and ventilated, so that you can prevent it from becoming moldy.o-FOOD-WASTE-facebook.jpg

But,some people will say, although we use the right way to store food, some of them still will be stale. Do we have a better way to use the extra foods when they are fresh? Yes, we can use them to feed your pet, cook and share with your friend, or cook them and sell them.

We have a lot of ways to reduce food waste. Some of them are easy and some of them are difficult but useful. If you want to try,you will find out how important it is. If everyone does something easy to reduce food waste, we can change the world!

FROM FARM TO TRASH
Have you ever noticed about how much food do you waste? A typical American family wastes 1.5 pounds of food per day. Are you surprised? Nowadays, food waste is one of the biggest problems in the world because population is increasing and also food waste is increasing. And one of the ways to decrease food waste is eat in small plates and portions . By eating small portions, we become healthier, we save the human effort ,and save water.

BECOMING HEALTHY
Nowadays, most people suffer from obesity, especially in United States. Approximately 35 percent of the population is overweight. But Japan and Korea suffer less. Only 5 percent of the population in these countries are overweight . There are many things that affect the weight of a person but eating a lot of fast food and not exercising are some of the most popular points in obesity. Our brain send messages to our stomach slowly.  So, we do not feel that we eat enough to satisfy during meal. But if we wait 20 minutes after eating a small portion, we feel satiety.

SAVE YOUR EFFORT
Most people hate to wash dishes. But if we eat small portions,we save our effort because we wash dishes in a short time. We spend 2kWh energy during washing. If we decrease the size of our plate we can save our effort. We will need fewer plates at meal times, so we can save time too. Perhaps we can eat more often, but in smaller portions.Eating less does not mean going hungry!

SAVE WATER AND FUTURE
Water is the most important natural resource in life. A person cannot live 3 days without water.
Image result for water waste
We can decrease the amount of wasted water during washing by eating in small plates. Small plates requires less time and less water to wash. A normal family spend 126 liters and 106 minutes to wash all dishes at home. Earth is the only planet with water, so we need to save it if we want our children to enjoy it.

In conclusion, we had to reduce food and water waste. 50 years from now, the world may double its population. So if we do not want to suffer from lack of water and hunger we have to care about how much food do we waste and how can we reduce it. At the same time we will be healthier, have more free time, and giving water to future generations.
